EPC- Winnifred Windfarm 138KV Transmission Line
EPC Project Details
K‐Line crews built 24.4km of 138kV transmission line near Medicine Hat, Alberta for the Winnifred Wind Project. Construction was safely completed during the 2024 summer and fall season.
EPC Project Highlights
- The project consisted of Steel Mono Poles on various foundation types including: concrete caisson, pipe casings and direct embedments.
- Crews worked closely with Environmental Consultants throughout various wetlands, native grasslands, landowner pastures, crown land, grazing leases, canid den sightings and bird migration corridors.
- 199 new steel STR’s were installed between 1054S (Holsom Substation) and 523S (Bullshead Substation).
- 11 new concrete caission foundations with 8ft diameter pile and 19 new pipe casing foundation with 3ft diameter piles.
- Single 3-Phase 477 kcmil Hawk ACSR c/w OPGW 24 fibre optic cable.
- New 138kV transmission line was designed to 167 MVA to accommodate capacity.
- Installation of bird diverters using drone technology.
- Project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget.
