Project Design Engineer – Engineer-in-Training (EIT)

We are seeking an EIT to join our talented team!

The Project Design Engineer-Engineer-in-Training is responsible for contributing to the K-Tek Electro Services Ltd., Distribution Design & Engineering departments, and assisting the Managers and the design & engineering team in delivering quality products and services to utility (and other) customers. The incumbent is responsible for the design and execution of various projects, ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on high voltage distribution lines and substations for utilities and commercial/industrial operations. They are responsible using calculations and skilled analysis in the quality and design of outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power system studies including coordination studies, short circuit analysis, arc-flash, load flows, harmonic analysis, power factor correction, voltage transient and ground grid design studies using engineering software
  • Conduct field inspections and testing of electrical equipment including but not limited to disconnects, circuit breakers, fuses, transformers, cables, protection relays, CTs/PTs, etc.
  • Assist and perform rehabilitation project designs on power systems from overhead to underground lines; rear lot to ROW; underground cable and/or transformer replacement, line expansions, relocations and voltage conversions
  • Generate design estimates and quotations, develop proposals, provide customer solutions and deliver customer solutions
  • Manage projects, develop and maintain job/project documentation including drawings, specifications, quotations, change orders, submittals, comments, review, approvals, test sheets, reports as well as any other relevant documentation
  • Perform troubleshoot and problem analysis

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and working towards obtaining a P. Eng designation in the province of Ontario
  • Valid “G” driver’s licence
  • A minimum of one (1) year of directly related experience in powerline design/utility engineering experience
  • Prior Utility distribution design experience (such as Hydro One, Toronto Hydro, Alectra and others) is an asset
  • Prior field experience identifying/locating structures, equipment, distribution utility/client plant and taking measurements
  • Knowledge of relevant industry design/construction standards, codes, regulations, requirements and practices (e.g., ESA)
  • Experience designing/working on electrical/civil distribution systems
  • Experience work in a technical environment
  • Knowledge of customer and industry design standards
  • Computer skills including proficiency using MS office and a working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Ability to manage complex and time-sensitive projects
  • Excellent sense of professionalism including strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure and be adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines
