We are looking for an Equipment Operator to join our Civil Operations team
As part of the Civil operations team, the Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining various pieces of equipment in a safe and efficient manner to assist in the completion of high voltage overhead and/or underground installation and maintenance. Note, this is a union position with IBEW 353.
Working conditions include working outdoors with exposure to various weather elements, heavy lifting and travel.
Responsibilities
- Operate equipment such as backhoes, mini excavators, skid steers, and loaders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities
- Operate equipment such as RBD’s, Nodwells, skidders, Tension and pulling machines to assist power line crews to install and maintain high voltage lines overhead and underground
- Reading and understanding locate sheets for underground utilities
- Practice workplace safety to ensure the safety of self, fellow employees and the public
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment (ELD) and clean, lubricate and refill equipment
- Operate equipment to move, load and unload material
- Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored
- Participate in routine maintenance and clean equipment as scheduled and/or required
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Valid AZ license is required
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience operation equipment
- Applicable tickets or trade certification is required
- Related college diplomas or certificates are preferred
- Branch 2 Mobile Crane Operator is an asset
- Experience operating equipment in tight and restrictive areas is an asset
- Experience operating equipment in the high voltage environment and alongside high voltage crews an asset
- Mechanical aptitude with comfort and familiarity with tools
- Ability to identify and work in the vicinity of high voltage lines, overhead and underground
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures including but not limited to backing up procedures, use of flagman and spotters, signage, incident reporting, required personal safety equipment, lifting heavy loads and load securement
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills
